CAS Institute of Zoology team solves genome sequence of locust

The huge genome (6.5 Gb) contains 60 % of repeat sequences and several peculiarities such as an important role of fatty acid metabolism related genes, since fatty acids are the principal energy substances for long-distance migratory insects. Locusts can eat food in daily quantities equivalent to their body weight.
