60 % of China’s R&D funding is in 6 cities and provinces

Of the 1.03 trillion RMB spent on R&D in China in 2012 (+18.5 compared to 2011), Jiangsu, Guangdong, Beijing, Shandong, Zhejiang and Shanghai spent 600.98 billion yuan, accounting for 58.4% of the total national funds. Basic research contributed 49.88 billion yuan (4.8 %), applied research 116.2 billion yuan and test development 863.76 billion yuan (83,9 %).
