In an attempt to counter rumors on the internet about hidden GMO food in the Chinese market, Mr WANG Zhixing, Director oft he Biosafety Laboratory of CAAS Biotechnology Research Institute clarified that at present the main domestically produced GMO food materials are cottonseed oil and papaya, whereas imported soybean and rapeseed oil and some corn products may also have GMO origin. In his opinion, a more precise labelling system will be needed in the future.
