Team at CAS Institute of Microbiology elucidates novel pathway for turning CO2 into PHBV bioplastics

A group around Dr XIANG Hua working for years on the archaea Haloferax mediterranei detected, using a combination of –omics and bioinformatics data, that this organism uses at least 4 pathways for the synthesis of PHBV precursors, including the condensation of CO2 with 3-hydroxyacrylic acyl-CoA. Using flux analysis, they found that this pathway contributes by about 30 % to overall PHBV synthesis
