CAS Institute of Modern Physics, Lanzhou, achieves major progress in sweet sorghum breeding using heavy ion beam irradiation

Sweet sorghum is a major crop variety in Gansu Province and a new type of sugar, energy and forage crop. Using heavy ion beam irradiation for mutagenesis, a 17 % increase in production was achieved, plus improved disease and climate change resistance.
