Chinese consortium builds Asia’s largest microalgae production site for astaxanthin in Yunnan

Partners are Asta Biotech LLC in Shilin, Yunnan, and Beijing Green Jinke Biological Technology Co. The project covers an area of 400.000 m2 and investment will be 75 million Yuan. The algae are grown in 88 microalgae bioreactors, and a major product will be astaxanthin (25 tons per year from 12 t of dry algae). Extraction will be done by a supercritical fluid. Beginning of production is planned for 2015.
