Beijing sewage plant masters use of sesame seed-immobilized „red bacteria“ for denitrification

The process was developed at the Beijing municipal sewage treatment plant in Gaobeidian during 7 years of R&D. The survival time of the red bacteria is given at over 15 days, and remove ammonia at rates over 95 %. A large-scale cultivation procedure has been developed, and reactors of 350 to 450 m3 volume are now being developed which can handle 36.000 m3 of effluent.
